Florida Dental CE Requirements: Hours, Deadlines & Approved Providers
Florida dental professionals must complete continuing education every renewal cycle to keep their licenses in good standing. The Florida Board of Dentistry sets specific hour requirements, mandatory topics, and reporting rules. This guide summarizes the current requirements for dentists and dental hygienists and explains how approved online providers like The Institute for Advanced Therapeutics (IAT) can help you meet them.
Always verify the latest requirements directly with the Florida Board of Dentistry, as rules can change.
Who Needs Florida Dental CE?
- Licensed dentists (DDS/DMD)
- Licensed dental hygienists
- Certain expanded-function dental assistants (check your specific permit)
Current CE Hour Requirements
According to Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B5-12.013:
- Dentists: A minimum of 30 hours of continuing education every two-year (biennial) renewal cycle.
- Dental hygienists: A minimum of 24 hours every two-year renewal cycle.
Most of the general hours can be completed through approved home-study or online courses.
Mandatory Topics
In addition to general hours, Florida requires specific courses:
For dentists (typical requirements):
- 2 hours: Prevention of Medical Errors (every renewal)
- 2 hours: Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances (every renewal; counts toward the 30-hour total)
- 2 hours: Domestic Violence (every third biennium)
- 2 hours: HIV/AIDS (first renewal only)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (must be a live course)
First Renewal Only: Newly licensed dentists renewing for the first time need 2 hours of HIV/AIDS and 2 hours of Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances.
Sedation Permit Holders: Dentists who hold an active sedation permit of any level must complete a 4-hour board-approved course in Medical Emergencies that includes a hands-on airway management component every biennium. This course is typically live/in-person due to the hands-on requirement and can count toward the 30-hour total.
For dental hygienists:
- 2 hours: Prevention of Medical Errors (every renewal)
- 2 hours: Domestic Violence (every third biennium)
- HIV/AIDS (first renewal only)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (live course)
Renewal Deadline
Florida dental licenses renew every two years. The deadline is typically February 28 of even-numbered years. CE must be completed and properly reported by that date.

NCBTMB-Approved Online Continuing Education for Massage Therapists
Many massage therapists need NCBTMB-approved continuing education—either to maintain Board Certification or because their state board accepts (or prefers) courses from NCBTMB Approved Providers. The Institute for Advanced Therapeutics is an NCBTMB Provider #154019-00, offering convenient, affordable online courses that meet these standards.
What Is NCBTMB Approval?
The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) approves continuing education providers and courses. For therapists who hold NCBTMB Board Certification, courses must come from Approved Providers to count toward renewal.
Many state licensing boards also recognize NCBTMB-approved courses for license renewal. You can review our full list of approvals on the About Us page.
Current NCBTMB Board Certification Requirements
To renew NCBTMB Board Certification, therapists typically need:
- 24 CE hours every two years
- At least 3 of those hours in Ethics
- All hours from NCBTMB Approved Providers
- Completion within the eligible renewal period
(Confirm the latest details on the official NCBTMB website.)
Why Choose Online NCBTMB-Approved Courses?

How CE Broker Reporting Works (and Which States We Report To)
CE Broker is an electronic tracking system used by many state licensing boards to record continuing education completions. When a provider reports your course to CE Broker, the board can see the credit without you having to submit paper certificates in most cases.
The Institute for Advanced Therapeutics automatically reports eligible course completions to CE Broker for licensees in specific states and professions.
What Is CE Broker?
CE Broker acts as a central database. Approved providers submit completion data, and your state board reviews it during audits or renewal. Having credits reported correctly helps avoid delays or issues at renewal time.
How IAT’s Automatic Reporting Works
- You create an account and enter your license number on the “My Licenses” page.
- You complete an eligible course and pass the test.
- We electronically report the completion to CE Broker for your state and profession (when reporting is available).
- The credit appears under your license in CE Broker.
Certificates are still available for download within 24 hours, even if reporting is not applicable to your state. Full details and the current list of states are available on our FAQ page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if my state is not on the list?
Automatic CE Broker reporting is only available for the states and professions listed above. For other states, you can still complete the course and receive a certificate. However, the course must be accepted by your state board and by CE Broker (if your state uses it). You will typically need to self-report or submit your certificate manually. Always verify acceptance with your licensing board before enrolling.
How long does reporting take?
Reporting typically occurs shortly after you pass the test. Exact timing can vary by state.
Do I still need a CE Broker account?
Many licensees create a free Basic account on CE Broker to track their credits. Check your board’s instructions.
